Kopš 2023. gada 1. novembra Itālijas Bankas prezidents un Itālijas Apdrošināšanas uzraudzības iestādes (IVASS) valdes priekšsēdētājs.
Kā Itālijas Bankas vadītājs Fabio Paneta darbojas kā valdes loceklis Eiropas Centrālās bankas (ECB) Padomē un Ģenerālpadomē, Eiropas Sistēmisko risku kolēģijas (ESRK) valdē, Starptautisko norēķinu bankas (BIS) Direktoru padomē, Finanšu stabilitātes padomes (FSP) koordinācijas komitejā, Pasaules Bankas valdē, Āzijas Attīstības bankā, Starptautiskajā Valūtas fondā un Amerikas Attīstības bankā. Piedalās arī G7 un G20 finanšu ministru un centrālo banku vadītāju sanāksmēs.
Kopš 2023. gada 1. novembra arī ieņem BIS Maksājumu un tirgus infrastruktūras komitejas (CPMI) un FSP Pārrobežu maksājumu koordinācijas grupas priekšsēdētāja amatu.
Fabio Paneta ir ieguvis akadēmisko grādu ekonomikā LUISS Universitātē Romā, maģistra grādu ekonomikā Londonas Ekonomikas augstskolā un doktora grādu ekonomikā un finansēs Londonas Universitātē. 1985. gadā viņš sāka darba gaitas Itālijas Bankā, kur no 2012. līdz 2019. gadam bijis vadītāja vietnieks un vecākais vadītāja vietnieks.
No 2020. līdz 2023. gadam Paneta bijis ECB Valdes loceklis, Eiro neliela apjoma maksājumu padomes (ERPB) priekšsēdētājs un Eiropas Finanšu infrastruktūru Eiro Kibernoturības padomes (ECRB) priekšsēdētājs.
2019. gadā piešķirts Itālijas Republikas ordeņa “Par nopelniem” kavaliera goda tituls.
Fabio Paneta publikācijas iekļautas tādos starptautiskos žurnālos kā The American Economic Review, The Journal of Finance, The Journal of Money, Credit and Banking, The European Economic Review un The Journal of Banking and Finance.
Governor of the Bank of Italy and Chairman of the joint Governing Board of the Italian Insurance Supervisory Authority (IVASS) as of 1 November 2023.
As Governor of the Bank of Italy, he is also a member of the Governing Council and General Council of the European Central Bank (ECB), the General Board of the European Systemic Risk Board (ESRB), the Board of Directors of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), the Steering Committee of the Financial Stability Board (FSB), the Boards of Governors of the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the International Monetary Fund and the Inter-American Development Bank. He takes part in the G7 and G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meetings.
He is also Chair of the BIS Committee on Payments and Market Infrastructures (CPMI) and the FSB Cross Border Payments Coordination Group as of 1 November 2023.
Fabio Panetta holds a degree in Economics from LUISS University in Rome, an MSc in Economics from the London School of Economics and a PhD in Economics and Finance from the University of London. He joined the Bank of Italy in 1985, where he served as Deputy Governor and Senior Deputy Governor between 2012 and 2019.
From 2020 to 2023 Mr. Panetta was a member of the ECB Executive Board and Chair of the Euro Retail Payments Board (ERPB) and of the Euro Cyber Resilience Board for pan-European Financial Infrastructures (ECRB).
He was awarded the honorary title of Knight Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Italy in 2019.
Fabio Panetta is the author of papers published in international journals such as The American Economic Review, The Journal of Finance, The Journal of Money, Credit and Banking, The European Economic Review and The Journal of Banking and Finance.
